The name Christian means “little Christ,” or someone who imitates Jesus. In other words, it should be evident to others that Christ is alive in us. The Apostle Paul instructed that this happens as we continue to love others sacrificially. There’s no better example of sacrificial and self-giving love than the Father sending Jesus to die on our behalf. True love will always require making sacrifices to do what’s in the best interest of others. This should shape our understanding that sacrifice is the essence of loving others well.
